However, the rain, snow, rock salt, and cold temperatures that come with winter weather can damage it. It is common for cracks, potholes, and divots to form during the winter months. It is important that these issues be repaired quickly to avoid further damage to the asphalt and damage to any vehicles driving over the asphalt. Here is a spring checklist for repairs and maintenance of your asphalt:

• Inspection: The first thing on your list should be to visually inspect your asphalt. Keep a look out for any cracks, chips, or potholes. Keep a note of any damage you may find so that you can notify an asphalt repair company of the repairs you need.

• Repairs: Once you have a list of the issues with your pavement, it is time to get it repaired. You need to get it repaired quickly to prevent the damage from expanding. Not repairing it can cost you later when the damage gets worse, a vehicle becomes damaged, or someone gets injured.

• Sealcoat: Sealcoating your asphalt is an affordable way for protecting it. Sealcoating is a protective layer that can guard against moisture, U.V. rays, snow, and other harsh chemicals. You do not need to reseal your pavement every year, but you should every two to three years.

• Line Restriping: Paint can fade from a harsh winter and regular wear and tear. It is important that you have parking space lines, fire lanes, handicapped areas, and loading zones repainted to ensure they are easily visible.

• Create a Regular Cleaning Schedule: Keeping your asphalt clean is paramount to its protection. Regularly clearing off rocks, dirt, leaves, and debris will help prevent damage. It can also prevent clogs in your drainage system which can lead to potholes and cracks forming.
